Sometime towards the end of this month, June of 2019, the paid domain name and paid subscription to WordPress for this blog will expire. Regretfully, I won’t be renewing either domain or subscription. I cannot justify spending the circa £100 that WordPress – and current silly, near-parity £/$ exchange rates – require. I think, although I don’t know, that the blog will revert to the “free” format provided by WordPress.
If that is the case (and I hope that it is) the blog will likely then only be accessible using
https://dieselelectricelephant.wordpress.com/
(whereas you may have https://dieselelectricelephant.com/ bookmarked).
I don’t know what this will do to any page links and wotnot, and if there is disruption then please accept my wholehearted apologies for the disconvenience (the annoyance).
Many thanks to all of you for following this blog and for your much-appreciated comments, shares and “likes”. I enjoy writing it, and I hope that you enjoy reading it, and will continue to do so.
Chin-chin for the mo, Ian H., and Cardinal W.
I hope I succeed in staying in touch with the blog.

Well, I hope we can still find you; I’ll come looking! Though I don’t visit as often as I’d like, you are an excellent writer and invariably make me smile. I pay for both domain and hosting for ABAB which was always intended to be a business (it hasn’t happened yet!) and, by its very nature, will get more expensive because, like a library, it is only ever going to grow. Of course, if it fails then, at some point, the plug will be pulled.

I worry about this happening. Right now I can afford to purchase the extra space ( and just got rid of ads – recently they have gotten so horrid, I can’t stand it…but not delusional enough to think I can make any money by their adv. programs ….and the ads would drive me nuts)
I have noticed other bloggers who bumped up against allowable space limits would go back and delete images until there was room…that seems a little drastic – and sad. Another just put in her last post that she had opened up another “free” blog with a new name and follow the link provided to there ( until you could subscribe if you wished)
Will be trying to keep you in sight – always enjoy your posts

Image storage might well soon become a problem with the limitations of the free version, but I’ll burn that bridge when I cross it, or something. 🙂

I use free WordPress only as I already have a paid for website with 1&1 which I started before I discovered everyone else was on WordPress. I’m sure we wil still enjoy your blog.

Thank’ee kindly! I’ve also tried hosting wordpress on my own 1&1 account, and between wordpress and the ISP it was a nightmare of hiccoughs, failures and hiccfails. I’ll see what the freebie version does for me and keep my fingers crossed. Many thanks for reading the blog! 🙂

Is there any way that we the ‘faithful’ may subscribe in some way in order that you may continue in bringing us such delightful posts in this the age of gloom and despondency? Would it embarrass you in any way if I put that to your multitude of followers?

HI Pat, and many, many thanks for the thought. I’ve tried “monetising” the blog with adverts – and that covered $1.10 in the first three months! I’ve also tried the subscription route via Amazon, and got a resounding zero subscriptions! The blog will continue in some shape or form, I enjoy writing it too much for it to disappear. Tis but a question of the complications, deviations and repetitions that may occur during the transition… hopefully, not too many. 😉

I am notified of new posts by email, so I think I have no need to do anything – please confirm? If that is not so, poke me in the eye and tell me to go to the correct link. Thank you – and good luck!

I think that the email notification is still a feature of the freebie version – I hope so, anyway, and that I’m not giving you a bum steer! 😉

I think I have added the new link to my ‘Reader’ i.e. Bloglovin so, with luck and a following wind (of which there is much in evidence just now) I should manage not to miss out. Wish me luck!

Hi Ian – I use a free theme, but pay £18.00 pa for my .com domain through WordPress – you might have gone for a premium theme plus domain, through WordPress.

Hi Chris, they had indeed – my apologies, it would happen when I wasn’t checking for a while! I have no idea why WordPress seems to single out your comments for moderation, and even less idea why suddenly it thinks that you’re spam. I have been coughing up for a package and domain name, but using a free theme. I didn’t realise that I could have the combination of domain name with freebie WordPress – that is something that I mun consider quickly, since t’would sort – I hope – any problems with broken links… Many thanks for the info, I will investigate.

I’ve got the paid-for domain name and the free theme, and it suits me fine. 🙂
